FSA32 is a Windows based protocol analyzer for debugging serial asynchronous communication.
FSA32 uses the standard COM ports of a PC and does not require any other hardware
except for the physical connection to the line.
A simple way to make the connection is using FLLBOB, FLL221, FLL221S or the FLL222.
FSA32 has the following main features:

To see more of FSA32 please download a demo (371KB).
Windows 3 users may want the older version of FSA.
FSA is the original 16 bit Windows based protocol analyzer.
It is no longer developed but is available for users still running Windows 3.

FLL is a DOS based protocol analyzer for debugging serial asynchronous communication.
FLL uses the standard COM1 and COM2 ports of a PC and does not require any other hardware
except for the physical connection to the line.
A simple way to make the connection is using FLLBOB, FLL221, FLL221S or FLL222.
FLL has the following main features:

If you already own a FLL with a version number lower than V4.05 and you have a Pentium 200 or
faster machine you might have trouble with Runtime Error 200.
FLL BreakOut Box FLLBOB is a breakout box specially designed to be used with the FLL and FSA
serial analyzers. With FLLBOB it is easy to connect the PC to the serial line without having
to make dedicated cables.
The serial line passes through FLLBOB using the serial connectors marked IN/OUT and OUT/IN.
The PC running the analyzer is connected to the connectors marked PRIMARY and SECONDARY PORT.
The secondary port connects the signal line which is NOT selected to be connected to the primary port.
The standard connection is COM1 as primary and COM2 as secondary port.
If you want a smaller size unit for monitoring only then take a look at the FLL222.
If you only have 1 COM port you might need the FLL221 or the FLL221S.
The primary port connects to the line as follows:
Signal name In/Out Connects to pin ----------------------------------------------------------------- RD I 2 or 3 DCD I 8 DSR I 6 CTS I 5 RI I 22 TD O 2 or 3 or not connected RTS O 4 or 5 or not connected DTR O 6 or 20 or not connectedBack to top.
The FLL221 BreakOut Box is designed to be used with the FLL and FSA
serial analyzers when they run on PC's with only one ComPort.
The serial line passes through FLL221 using the 9-pin connectors.
Data from both pin 2 and 3 of the serial line is available on the FLL221 output.
The output cable from FLL221 is connected to the ComPort of the PC running the analyzer.
The FLL221S model has two additional switches accessible on the top side of the unit.
The switches are used to select whether to monitor pins 2 or 3, or both.
FLL221 is suitable for half-duplex transmission lines such as RS-232-lines that control
a RS-485 network or other systems that are controlled by a RS-232 half-duplex protocol.
Please observe that if data is transmitted in both directions simoultaneously the output will be
not be correct. In this case use FLLBOB or FLL222.
FLL221 is powered by the RS-232 line that is being monitored and will therefore load
the line with a small amount of current. With RS-232 lines that follow specifications
this will not be a problem.
The FLL222 Break Out Box is designed to be used with the FLL and FSA
serial analyzers to monitor full duplex bidirectional data.
The serial line passes through FLL222 using the 9-pin connectors on the unit.
Data from pin 2 of the serial line is available on pin 2 in the first output cable.
Pin 3 data is available on pin 2 of the second cable. The output cables can be
plugged into the COM ports of the PC running the serial analyzer.
FLL222 is similar to FLLBOB but used only for monitoring data.
For modem control signal monitoring and transmission, the FLLBOB is a better choice.
For bidirectional monitoring if your PC only has one COM port use the FLL221 or the FLL221S.
